Festdidgean is the name given to the language spoken in Festdidgea. Festdidgean mostly refers to 'New Common Festdidgean' which is the standard form of the language that is used in government institutions and is taught in schools. This form of the language comes from the North Eastern dialect of Festdidgean, which in itself came from the Old Festdidgean language. Both the North Eastern and Old Festdidgean languages are still spoken in parts of the country, with the languages being distinct and not mutually intelligible. The goal of New Common Festdidgean is to create a language which unifies all citizens of Festdidgea and allows communication within the country to become more efficient. However, citizens are encouraged to also learn and keep alive the dialects and/or languages of where they live. The aim of New Common Festdidgean is not to quash any minority languages, but only to provide a standard language that means for example, someone from Kagorek Tamos-akot can communicate with someone from Taosoref.
